Basil's Brush With Fame
originally aired on Friday 21st October 2005

Robert Kazinsky plays the eccentric talent agent Sven Garley

Scene 1: Anil's Cafe

After hearing of the latest boyband named 'Beef', Basil dreams up the idea of starting their own band along with Stephen and Dave. The only problem is they don't have an agent or a recording contract. After Basil's fails to get them a deal, from his 'contacts' all seems lost.... Then as if from nowhere appears a wacky agent by the name of Sven Garley!

Sven explains that his real name is actually Brian, but doesn't think 'Brian Garley' sounds very show business. Sven tells Basil, Stephen and Dave that he is the manager of Beef and he's thinks their popularity is just about to expire.

"You are into their 14 (of 15) allocated minutes of fame" (Sven Garley)

Sven states that he is looking for a new band to take the place of Beef.

"and so I'm out and about looking for the next bunch of idiots to turn into pop stars!" (Sven Garley)

Sven doesn't care what Basil and the gang think, as he purposely calls them idiots and then makes out he said it out loud by accident. He thinks of them as complete fools who will do anything to make it big as the next boyband. Indeed at this point he's correct as Basil and the others pretend they didn't hear what he called them!

Scene 2: Sven's Office

Sven has Basil, Stephen and Dave in his office for them to sign 'the biggest record contract in history', so Sven states, trying to impress the three hapless fools! In reality it's the biggest contract because of the amount of pages the actual written agreement contains!

Dave suggests that they should read the contract before signing it, with Basil and Stephen too eager to be famous that they don't care what they are signing. Sven agrees that he 'could' be taking advantage of them.

"I could be some unscrupulous blood sucking parasite!" (Sven Garley)

The gang soon sign the contract when Sven says he's not an unscrupulous guy and tells them they are in the recording studio in 20 minutes time to record their very first single!

Scene 3: Recording Studio

In the recording studio Basil and the gang are all set to record their first single, however Stephen reminds them that they don't actually have any songs written and they can't play their instruments. Basil says they can improvise and they come up with rock/hip hop mixed version of Bright Eyes! During the intro music of the song, Sven looks pleased, but this soon turns to disbelief at what they are singing!

Scene 4: Recording Studio

After the recording session, Sven admits there are some rough edges here and there with their track, but they can soon sort that out.

"One or two rough edges here and there, but once we get it remixed, get a few session musicians in, add some backing vocals I guarantee you won't recognise it"

Scene 5: Sven's Office

Back in Sven's office, the gang are listening to their newly recorded single that sounds nothing like the one they had actually recorded earlier! To the point that it isn't actually them singing on it! Sven asks them isn't it fantastic, with Basil and Stephen disapointedly agreeing. Dave asks them don't they care that it isn't actually them singing. Sven chimes in that it doesn't matter because they will be big stars anyway!

Sven goes on to try and convince Dave, Basil and Stephen that it doesn't matter as they will still be an household name and be mobbed by screaming girls. Sven tells them he has a photoshoot lined up and therefore it's time for them to have a makeover....

"The most important thing about being a pop star, is looking like a pop star"

Scene 6: Photoshoot/Interviews

During the newly painted orange and white suit wearing bands first photoshoot and interview session, Sven doesn't think that Basil, Stephen and Dave are giving the right answers, so proceeds to answer near enough all the questions posed to them!

Scene 7: Sven's Office

Back in Sven's office, the guys complain that they didn't actually get to say anything as Sven had done all the talking for them. Sven asks them if they are ready for their launch party because he's hired a really exclusive restaurant for it. He says they will be in the VIP Area and tells them to go off and enjoy it!

Scene 8: Anil's Cafe

The gang are at their launch party, which is being held in Anil's Cafe! Basil states that they hate the food here, so won't be ordering anything (even though Sven tells them they can order anything off the menu) Sven makes an excuse of seeing someone he knows to get away from them.

Sven is on his phone to 'Screaming Girls R Us' complaining that the girls he ordered should have been there 20 minutes ago. This obviously shows Sven's shady side, having to order fake fans to make the band look popular. Basil also admits that the band are now known as 'Burger'!

Scene 9: Sven's Office

The gang are listening to the radio in Sven's office as the DJ is playing their new song. Sven tells them that a Limo will be there later to take them to a TV studio to record their TV debut on Pop of the Tops. The gang are no so enthusiastic anymore after all the changes Sven has made. They decide to confront him with their concerns, using Dave as their spokesperson.

Dave tells Sven that they want to play their own music under their own name. However Sven just laughs at him, assuming that's he's joking. When he sees he's serious he tells him how the music business 'works'......

"Alright son, let me explain how the music biz works...blah blah blah, blah blah, blah blah, blah blah"

Dave is fired and replaced by a new member named Ken and Stephen also soon quits, also being replaced straight away too by another Ken!

Scene 10: Pop of the Tops Studio

Sven is anxiously waiting for Basil to arrive and when he does, remarks that it's about time he got there. He reminds Basil that this is the biggest TV appearance of his life. Basil apologises for being late, but tells Sven that he had something to pick up from home, his fellow bandmates, Stephen and Dave!

Sven isn't pleased to see Stephen and Dave and his angry because he knows how useless they are at playing music and the appearance is gonna turn into a disaster!

Sure enough, the audience cannot stand the music and Sven is angry at this wasted apportunity of not turning them into the next big boyband afterall.

End Credits:

As the credits are rolling across the screen, we see Sven offering orange paint, white suits and a recording contract to a couple of workers at the studio. Obviously Sven hasn't given up and still has plans to create the ultimate boyband any way he possibly can!
